Happy Sunday, my crafty friends! It is Celes here, and today I am sharing a project that feels extra special: a cake-shaped mini album created to document my 40th birthday weekend. This tiny keepsake is full of cheerful details—sprinkles, confetti, layered frosting, and all the happy color—while still leaving plenty of room for photos and journaling (because these memories deserved more than a single page).

For the papers, I combined designs from my Rainbow Avenue collection with a few favorites from Simple Stories. The result is bright and celebratory, but still soft and pretty—exactly the mood I wanted for this story. The stars of the project are the Make a Cake! dies, and I paired them with the Hi, Hey, Hello Word Dies plus the Card Sentiment Dies ( from Emily Moore Designs )to create bold titles and small finishing touches that bring everything together.

For today’s mini album, I used:

• Make A Cake – Gift Card Holder Die
• Hi, hey, hello Word Dies – Big & Bold
• Card Sentiment Dies
• Antique White Assorted Treasured Cardstock
• Rainbow Avenue 12×12 Paper Pad
• Everyday Notes Clear Stamp Set

Let’s create together this Mini Album…

Mini Album Base:

• Die cut the cake pages:
  – Choose four coordinating colors for the cake pages.
  – I used pink, green, light blue, and pastel yellow.
  – Die cut one full cake set in each color.
  – Die cut the inner cake layers from textured white cardstock for contrast.
• Add a decoration color + specialty papers:
  – Pick one extra color for the decorations. I used purple.
  – Optional (but very worth it): add a little white/silver glitter paper and acetate for sparkle and shine.
• Create the hinge:
  – Cut smooth white cardstock: 1″ wide × 2 3/4″ tall.
  – Score at 1/2″ (along the width).
  This becomes the hinge that holds the structure together.
• Assemble the individual pages:
  – Keep the inner layers flat.
  – Add 3D foam behind the outer front-cover layer to give each cake page dimension.
• Build the album structure:
  – Adhere the pages in pairs, leaving the hinge area without adhesive.
  – Adhere the hinge in place and your base is complete.
  

Important note: Do not add adhesive where the inner cards will slide in (photos and journaling).

Decorating the Cover:

Now the fun part—turning the base into a true birthday keepsake.

• Adhere the glitter cardstock die-cut pieces along the cake border.
• Assemble the layered frosting swirls. I mixed solid cardstock with glitter accents for extra sparkle.
• Put together the “Hi” word (die cut ahead of time), then add:
  – a small stamped sentiment
  – the birthday number
• Pop up the main cover elements with 3D foam.
• Add the frosting swirls with foam for even more dimension.
• Finish with colorful and white sprinkles + a few tiny sequins.

Cover complete!

Interior:

• Prepare two journaling cards and one double photo card (one photo on each side).
• Slide the cards into the pages.
• Add any decorative accents you like to finish it off.

And that is how this sweet little 40th birthday mini album came together! I love how the Make a Cake! dies turn a simple structure into a true keepsake—full of layers, sparkle, and space for photos and journaling that makes the memories feel alive.

Happy Wednesday, crafty friends! It is Celes here, and today I am sharing a layered A2 card that is all about texture, dimension, and a bold focal point: my Layered Beauty card featuring the Make a Moth – Betty die set from Emily Moore Designs.

I used a soft peachy palette, a subtle scripted background, and an embossed panel to add that extra “you want to touch it” texture. The centerpiece is a classic focal cluster—Betty (the star, obviously), one large bloom, a few smaller flowers, and airy leaves with a hint of shimmer. Clean, elegant, and still fun… because we are not here to make boring cards.

For today’s card, I used:

• Make a Moth Die Set
• Letter Box Postmarks Clear Stamp Set
• Spellbinders Vivid Blooms Etched Dies
• Spellbinders Ribbon and Trim Etched Dies
• Spellbinders PRECISION LAYERING A2 A Etched Dies
• Simple Stories Take Note 6 x 8 Paper Pad 25915
• ColorWheel Cardstock: Cranberry, Blush, Bellini, Mint, Alabaster, Indigo, Gold.

Let’s create together this Card

Base of the card:

• As the base for the card, we need a A2 side-fold card base of 4.25″ × 5.5″.
• Cut one patterned panel to 4.25″ × 5.5″ (same size as the card base). In my case I used a paper from the Simple Stories Take Note 6 x 8 Paper Pad
• Cut two coordinating cardstock panels: 3.25″ × 4.50″ and 3″ × 4.25″ (different colors)
• Emboss the smallest panel with an embossing folder.
• Adhere the full patterned panel flat onto the card base.
• Add the two smaller panels using 3D foam for beautiful dimension.

Tip: If you love crisp borders and consistent spacing, nested dies are the old-school, reliable way to get it right every time.

Decorative details:

With the base ready, die cut all the pieces for the focal cluster:

• Die cut Betty and mix regular cardstock with specialty papers (foil, glitter, metallics). That contrast makes her pop.
• Die cut one large flower plus three smaller blooms for balance.
• Die cut leaves from both solid cardstock and glitter paper to add texture and sparkle.
• For the sentiment, use whatever fits your stash: stamps, rub-ons, or pre-printed strips. I stamped a small sentiment in black ink onto a pre-cut strip for a clean finish.

Design note: As you build the cluster, spread your colors across the arrangement so everything feels cohesive—not like all the “strong” elements are fighting in one corner.

Now the fun part: bringing everything to life:

• Shape flower petals and gently curl the leaves to create movement.
• Lift Betty’s wings slightly so she looks like she could fly right off the card.
• Build the cluster with 3D foam.
• Keep the most height on the main character: I used two layers of foam under Betty for extra dimension.

Same Design, Different Color Palette

I also made a second version using a different color palette to show how versatile this layout is. Same structure, totally different mood. (A proven trick: when in doubt, change the colors and pretend it was the plan all along.)

And we are done! This is one of those designs that looks “fancy” but is actually very repeatable once you have the panel sizes and cluster formula.
