Hi friends! I’m back with one more Christmas project, and this is the third and final card—for now!—that I created with the Spectacular Christmas collection by Spellbinders. And I think this adorable little penguin is the perfect way to finish this mini series!
For my Sending Hugs for Christmas Card, I wanted to play with a softer and slightly unexpected Christmas color palette, mixing mint, aqua and pink with the classic black and white of the penguin. Of course, I couldn’t resist adding a little sparkle and plenty of dimension too! Between those funny glasses, the fluffy earmuffs and that tiny cupcake, there are so many little details to discover in this design. Let me show you how it all came together!

For this card I used:
- Spellbinders Spectacular Penguin Etched Dies s3-565
- Spellbinders Spectacular Bear Etched Dies s5-722
- Spellbinders Playful Stitched Panels Etched Dies s5-747
- Checkered Argyle – Embossing Folder of the Month
- PRECISION LAYERING A2 A Etched Dies S5-487

Card Base:
- For card base, I used Hero Hues Dove White Top Folded Cards
- The first thing we need to do is prepare the base panel. For this, I will use ALABASTER cardstock. Using my Platinum Six Die Cutting Machine together with the Checkered Argyle – Embossing Folder of the Month and the PRECISION LAYERING A2 A Etched Dies S5-487, I will prepare an embossed background panel that will serve as the base for my composition.
- Next, using MINT and BLUSH cardstock and the Playful Stitched Panels Etched Dies S5-747, I will cut two panels that I will use to build the area where the penguin will be placed.
- With these pieces ready, we have everything we need for the base of the card.

Decorative details:
Before we begin with the decorative details, we will assemble the base of the card. First, we will adhere the embossed panel flat to the card base. Then, we will layer the two stitched-edge panels, adhering them together with 3D foam adhesive. We will also attach the layered piece to the card base using 3D foam adhesive.
With the card base ready, we can now move on to the step-by-step process for all the decorative details:
- Die-cut all the pieces from the Spellbinders Spectacular Bear Etched Dies S5-722 and the Spellbinders Spectacular Penguin Etched Dies S3-565 using the cardstock colors listed in the materials section. For some of the pieces, I used the white glitter specialty paper from the Antique White Assorted Treasured Cardstock SCSP-016 set.
- Once all the pieces are die-cut, assemble this sweet little Christmas penguin.
- Next, prepare the sentiment for the card. I used the Alex Syberia Designs – Essential Sentiments BetterPress Plate and Die Set together with my Glimmer Hot Foil System and black hot foil.
- To give the sentiment a little more dimension and thickness, I die-cut two additional pieces of the sentiment outline and layered them together.
- Adhere the Christmas penguin centered on the BLUSH panel of the card base using 3D foam adhesive.
- Then, add the sentiment, also with 3D foam adhesive.
- For the final touch, add a few sequins.

And that’s it! My Sending Hugs for Christmas Card is finished. I really enjoyed putting this little penguin together and playing with all those tiny details, layers, and soft Christmas colors. It’s such a fun design, and I love how much personality you can create just by changing the colors and combining the different die-cut pieces.
